Natural filtration methods for the aquarium

In the diverse world of aquaristics, natural filtration methods are becoming increasingly popular, as they offer an efficient way to improve the water quality in the aquarium.

Natural filtration methods use biological processes, natural substances and living organisms to clean the aquarium water. Essentially, it is a form of water treatment in which the natural cycles of nature interact in the tank.

Aquatic plants such as waterweed and Amazon sword plants can absorb nutrients from the water, which inhibits algae growth and improves water quality.

In marine aquariums, it is primarily corals. They filter nutrients from the water and provide a home for beneficial bacteria. These in turn can then take care of processing ammonia and nitrite.

A good substrate made of sand, gravel or soil can also help absorb excess nutrients and promote plant root growth.

Natural filtration methods also include substances such as peat. Peat granules can be used to reduce water hardness, add humic substances to the aquarium and slightly lower the pH value.

Natural filtration methods are an interesting development in aquaristics that improve water quality in a natural way.
