Wabi Kusa
Another way to keep aquatic plants is the Wabi Kusa. This is a very special way of growing aquatic plants emersed, i.e. above the water.
Originating in Japan, a Wabi Kusa involves growing plants in a small space, often on soil pressed into a ball. It's inspired by the East Asian aesthetic principle of wabi-sabi, in which transience and imperfection play a special role. There's no direct translation of Wabi Kusa, but it can loosely be described as "beautiful grassland".
To show off a Wabi Kusa at its best, a beautiful glass is recommended. With a closed glass, you can also influence the humidity for the aquatic plant. Nutrients can be added with the DOOA Wabi Kusa Mist.
Whether small mini aquariums or plant vases in various shapes - this decision is best made together with the choice of plants and the type of Wabi Kusa you want to create. Many high-end aquarium suppliers, such as ADA, DOOA and Bioloark, make dedicated tanks and bowls for Wabi Kusa - and we've put them together for you in this section.
For good growth of the aquatic plants, regardless of where the Wabi Kusa is placed, lighting is essential. Since most bowls don't have a suitable rim for mounting an LED properly, lights with a stand are used. For this purpose, we offer LEDs such as the ONF Flat Nano, the Bioloark Wabi-Kusa Lamp and the Chihiros LED System CII, among others. All of these lights provide good illumination and promote plant growth.
There are many different ways to design a Wabi Kusa. As in every area of aquaristics, there are hardly any limits to your imagination. We offer the selection you need to get such a project off to the best possible start. This way, an aquatic plant or a terrarium plant can be cultivated like a houseplant in almost any spot.
To give you an insight into designing a Wabi Kusa, we have a detailed Wiki article on this topic.
As with our aquariums, we place great importance on safe packaging when shipping, so that you can get this new project started quickly as well.
