Water Conditioners for Your Aquarium
Water conditioners have several jobs in aquaristics. For one thing, they make sure that any toxins present in the water are removed during a water change or when adding fresh water. Heavy metals or chlorine residues, for example, could otherwise become dangerous for the inhabitants of an aquarium. This is especially important if you use tap water for your aquarium. Even though chlorine isn't permanently present in tap water, the water supplier may flush its pipes with it every now and then, and homeowners aren't always warned in advance. Metal residues such as copper can sometimes leach out of old pipes. It's particularly dangerous if fairly new copper pipes have been installed in the house. So if you want to play it safe, we highly recommend using a water conditioner whenever you do a water change in your aquarium.
In our online shop, we offer water conditioning products from many well-known manufacturers in the aquarium industry, such as Dennerle, JBL, ADA or Seachem. If you use tap water or even demineralized water for your water change, the fresh water may lack important elements that are essential for the ecosystem or the inhabitants of the aquarium. Minerals, trace elements, humic substances and vitamins in particular are often missing. With suitable products such as GlasGarten Betaglucan + Immunglobulin or ADA Aqua Conditioner Vitamix, you can add these missing elements. They protect and strengthen the immune system and health of fish and shrimp in an aquarium. Essential humic acids can be added with products such as SaltyShrimp Leaves & Bark or Dennerle Humin Elixier, which you can also buy here.
If your aquarium water is cloudy due to suspended particles, water conditioners such as the liquid filter medium from Easy Life or Clarity from Seachem are recommended. These products bind the particles floating in the water into larger clumps, which then sink to the bottom. They can then be siphoned off or captured by mechanical filtration.
Certain water conditioners can also be used to adjust individual water parameters in the aquarium. These include pH-lowering additives such as the classic pH-Minus from JBL or Acid Regulator from Seachem. They allow you to set the pH optimally to specific values, so that the aquarium water meets the requirements of tropical ornamental fish such as discus or tetras.
Special liquid products such as Dennerle Bacto Elixier FB7 or GlasGarten Bacter AE supplement the aquarium water with beneficial bacteria. Various microorganisms are added, for example nitrifying starter bacteria, which speed up the breakdown of pollutants in the aquarium, but also bacteria that can reduce the amount of dirt and mulm that builds up in the aquarium.
