Although it's less obvious, oxygen is still needed in sufficient quantities in the aquarium. Fish absorb the oxygen dissolved in the aquarium water through their gills, and, much like most mammals, they breathe out CO2 again. For some sensitive aquarium inhabitants, strong fluctuations in oxygen supply can have dramatic consequences. In some cases, it's therefore advisable to prevent low oxygen concentrations. These can occur when a particularly large number of fish live in the aquarium, when a sudden algae bloom appears or when the filter gradually loses part of its circulation capacity due to clogging. Fish and shrimp then swim to the water surface and gasp desperately for air. Tetra has designed the right accessories for exactly this purpose: the powerful APS aquarium air pumps and the smaller Air Silent air pumps. An air stone breaks up the compressed air into fine bubbles and disperses them in the water column. When placed in the direction of the current, the air bubbles are distributed throughout the entire aquarium.
