Description

Very nice rare foliose moss called Pearl moss because of its nice round leaflets. It resembles our native Plagiomnium affine, but it has not been identified yet. Under water it is a slow grower, forming upright shoots. Medium light and a good CO2 and nutrient supply are recommendable. This moss can be cultivated emerged on moist substrate, given that the humidity is high.

Under the names "Perlenmoos" and "Perlmoos" (pearl moss), several mosses with rounded leaflets are known in the aquarium hobby. Looked at closely, they are quite different mosses. In some cases they are foliose (= leafy) liverworts; two species have been identified as Heteroscyphus zollingeri and Solenostoma tetragonum. But "pearl moss" can also refer to mosses of the genus Plagiomnium (creeping star moss).1

Plagiomnium species have leaves with a distinct midrib that runs to the leaf tip or ends just before it. This alone distinguishes them from foliose liverworts, which never have a leaf midrib. The shoots (in the terrestrial form) often grow arching and overhanging or creeping; this is, among other things, how Plagiomnium species differ from the very similar genus Mnium (star moss). Grows on mini bricks super well, great portion. Since I tried the moss slurry method, I had to puree this pretty moss with soil and water. (read more)

Dry Start gelungen

Plagiomnium cf. affine

In vitro quality, so good. Suitable for submersed and emersed (bottle garden) use. Submersed, the leaves stay smaller (dark green) for me than in the emersed (light green) variant. (read more)

in Vitro

in Vitro Qualität, also gut.

I tied this moss onto a stone and a catfish cave and it grows like crazy. Looks beautiful and grows straight up. Exactly how I wanted it. Looks great!
